I went to see Blade Runner in an IMAX cinema last week, because it's an amazing film and I missed it's theatrical re-release last year, so I just had to see it on one of the biggest screens in the world! It was well worth it.

Thus inspired, I went home to play the old video game, made by Westwood (creators of Command & Conquer) in 1997, only to find out that it wouldn't install on my PC because I have a 64bit OS (Vista Ultimate). This is the same problem I had recently with my original C&C Red Alert disks - although the games DO work on 64bit OSs, the installing programs don't. For Red Alert I fixed this simply by getting C&C - The First Decade compilation disk, which has a new installer. However the Blade Runner game has never been re-released.

I searched the internet for a solution - and found one! Someone made a program that takes the game's files and recompresses them into a 64bit compatible install program. The only catch is you have to have the game installed first. So I booted into good old WinXP, installed the game, took the files, compressed them into a new installer, and burned them to disk. Now it installs on 64bit!

So to save you all the trouble I had to go to, I decided to share this copy of Blade Runner. The only problem I've encountered is when the game first loads the display is messed up. I fixed that by pressing alt-tab to switch back to Windows, then clicked on the game on the taskbar to return to it. That fixed the problem. The game works as usual, and even though it's 11 years old it's still playable, still a fantastic game. Enjoy!
