At his death in November 2004 he left three unpublished novels that made up the trilogy. It became a posthumous best-seller in Europe. The film is very well-made with superb cinematography. The actors all portray their respective characters perfectly, although Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander, Michael Nyqvist as Michael Blomkvist and Sven-Bertil Taube as Hanrik Vanger deserve a special mentioning. The films story is very exciting and puzzling, and the pace is steady with some really tense situations. The investigation part of the story is excellent. Although it is 2.5 hours long it is never boring. Note from uploader: I highly recommend this movie. Excellent performance by Noomi Rapace. To me, this is the Best Foreign Film of 2009. Get it! IMDB Synopsis: Mikael Blomkvist, a middle-aged man who writes for the magazine Millennium, loses a case against corrupt Swedish industrialist Hans-Erik Wennerström and is sentenced to prison.
Before beginning his prison time, he is hired by Henrik Vanger, the aged former CEO of a group of companies owned by a wealthy dynasty. Vanger wants him to solve the disappearance, forty years ago, of Vanger's great-niece when she was sixteen. Vanger is persuaded that she was killed by someone in his family. Blomkvist is ultimately helped by Lisbeth Salander, an asocial punk who has been victimized by authorities throughout her whole life. By accident she meets Blomkvist and the unlikely couple become another classic detective pair where the hunters become the hunted.
