Recorded at the legendary Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX, this 1973 concert captures a young Commander Cody, hearty and energetic, able to traverse rockabilly, Western swing, jump blues, and honky-tonk in a single bound.
This quintessential live recording features the classic version of the band, which included guitarist Bill Kirchen (who'd later embark on an impressive solo career). Cody and the boys are at their best here, whether spitting out spirited rockabilly ("Good Rockin' Tonight"), indulging in some hippie/stoner humor ("Down to Seeds & Stems Again Blues"), or even adding a Cajun touch ("Diggy Liggy Lo"). Toward the end of the disc, the band launches into its unofficial theme song, "Too Much Fun," with all the emotional commitment of "The National Anthem," and of course, much more fun. When wading throught the confusing waters of Cody's many live albums from various eras, fans are recommended to begin with this one.
